Functional Integration®

In a Functional Integration® session, a Feldenkrais® Method practitioner uses gentle and precise movement and touch to refine your body’s coordination and improve everyday well-being.

Pain or limitations in our body are often caused by unconscious, inefficient movement patterns, which create repetitive strain on the joints and soft tissue. Functional Integration® facilitates the development of alternative movement patterns by harnessing your nervous system’s neuroplastic capacity to change and rewire.

Whether you are recovering from an injury, facing chronic pain, experiencing age-related body changes, or seeking to understand your habits, boost athletic performance, or simply experience greater ease in your daily activities, Functional Integration® can help you achieve your movement goals.

Functional Integration® is a central component of the Feldenkrais® Method, which was developed by physicist and judo master Moshe Feldenkrais in the mid-20th century. Feldenkrais believed that everyone holds the potential to continue developing and improving at any stage of their life regardless of physical or cognitive challenges. Functional Integration® is a holistic and accredited practice suitable for all bodies and abilities.

What to expect in a session:

During a Feldenkrais® FI session, the practitioner begins with an assessment and asks about your movement goals. Next, they guide you through a personalized learning process using verbal cues, gentle touch, and subtle movements. As you integrate new movement pathways, your nervous system learns to release the habitual patterns causing discomfort or restriction. This process leads to improved body coordination, which can result in increased relaxation, decreased pain, as well as feeling more whole and at ease in your body.

Treatments are performed fully clothed, using a therapy table and support props to facilitate your movements. Any comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely can be worn.

Sessions are located at Klinik Health Collective (101-225 E 17th Ave).
